Official overview
In Rayman’s world, nature and people live together in peace. One day, the evil Mr. Dark defeats Betilla, the Fairy, and steals the Great Protoon, the provider of harmony and balance. The Electoons who used to gravitate towards it lose their natural stability and scatter all over the world. Strange phenomena begin to occur: freaks and hostile characters appear, capturing every Electoon they can find! The disappearance of the Great Protoon also neutralized all of Betilla’s powers, and she needs time to regenerate before she can help in any way. They definitely need a hero to save them, and it looks like you’re it. It’s now up to Rayman and you to rescue the world.

Known issues
Incorrect Music Playing
So you noticed that the music that you hear when you play the game isn't what you should be hearing. Don't fret, just follow dinofan137's guide on the GOG forum which details how to install the complete soundtrack. (Guide)How to install the complete soundtrack
Music Stuttering
Some have experienced stuttering and jittering music also affecting the frame rate of the game in some cases. The following steps are likely to fix the issue:
- Open the dosboxRayman.conf file located at C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Rayman Forever\Rayman in a text editor of your choice.
- Under [cpu], find core and change it's value from normal to auto.
If you experience various "pops" between music tracks try changing the cycles to max under [cpu] as well. Be aware that this might not work in all cases.[1]
Anti-Virus & False Positives
Many users have reported that F-Secure, Norton, Avira and Avast among other anti-viruses detects STARTUP.EXE, CLIENT.EXE, RAYRUN.EXE, MAPPER.EXE as Trojans or identifies them as W95/CIH virus[2]. However, it has already been stated once by the GOG Team that these all are false positives [3] and should be ignored. The executables mentioned above is only used by the level editor, Rayman Designer. The game itself is not affected but the installation process is likely to be. It has been reported more than once that the installer has been interrupted due to anti-virus - disabling your anti-virus during installation should resolve the problem. Users with this issue are likely to get a similar error to this:
"An error has ocurred while trying to rename a file in the destination directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Rayman Forever\RayKit\OSD\STARTUP.EXE" [4] [5]
Incorrect Resolution / Not filling screen
The game may not actually fill the screen in fullscreen mode. To fix this:
- Open the dosboxRayman.conf file located at C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Rayman Forever\Rayman in a text editor of your choice.
- Under [sdl]:
- Change the value of fullscreen to true
- Change both fullresolution and windowresolution to your screen's resolution. For example, 1920x1080
- Change output to anything other than the default surface. This may require experimentation. overlay is typically recommended, but I've personally found this introduces weird issues and that ddraw works great
- Change aspect to true.
- Under [render]:
- Change aspect to true
- You may change scaler to your choice. A comparison of different methods is available on the DOSBoxWiki
